Epsilon Telecommunications Selects Turin’s Traverse™ 2000 to Expand Capacity of Its London Metro Optical Network

UK-Based Carrier Quadruples Network Capacity, Transitioning from Legacy to Next-Generation Equipment, While Laying Plans for an Aggressive European Buildout

Petaluma, CA, February 2nd, 2006
- Turin Networks, a global provider of multiservice optical transport products for carrier, wireless and private networks, announced today that Epsilon Telecommunications, a leading UK-based telecommunications company, has deployed Turin’s Traverse™ Multiservice Transport Switch in its London metro ring network to expand network capacity by a factor of four – from 2.5Gbps to 10Gbps. In a second phase, Epsilon will turn its attention to a major European backbone expansion, with plans to deploy Traverse switches initially in its Paris, Frankfurt, and Amsterdam metro rings.

With the Traverse platform in operation, Epsilon is in position to introduce Ethernet-based services such as voice-over-IP (VoIP) to its customers.

Epsilon has one of the best connected voice interconnection networks in Europe, and the Turin platform has given us the means to speed up the provisioning cycle and to broaden support for our growing market,” said George Szlosarek, network operations manager for Epsilon. “Turin products will be at the heart of our expanded Ethernet service capability. The advanced features of the Traverse platform’s NGE (next-generation Ethernet) cards, coupled with other equipment from the product portfolio, allow for a truly flexible Ethernet service offering.”

A core service of Epsilon is supplying E1 connections between cities in Europe and the US. According to Epsilon officials, the Traverse platform’s distributed switching architecture is an ideal fit for the company’s business, providing true pay-as-you-grow scalability and economics.

“The wide variety of modules available for the Turin chassis gives Epsilon a strong competitive advantage,” said Szlosarek. “In one unit we can integrate SDH, Ethernet, and WDM optics, enabling us to optimize the network for whatever application we need to deliver. And our efforts are backed by Turin ’s European sales and operations team, which has provided outstanding support.”

“Epsilon Telecommunications is using Turin Networks to upgrade its existing SDH network to support the rapid business growth of managed bandwidth services and to enable the growth of next-generation Ethernet-based services such as VoIP,” said Lars Cavi, vice president and managing director for Turin’s EMEA region. Fast time to market, flexibility, quality of service, manageability, customer service and pay-as-you grow economics are key to Epsilon’s expansion strategy, and we are pleased to provide the platform that will help Epsilon drive its aggressive expansion.” Cavi added that Turin’s advanced technology and flexible business approach have provided Epsilon with a true competitive edge in one of the most competitive markets in the world.

About the Traverse Platform
Turin’s Traverse Multiservice Transport Switch simplifies the transition to a converged optical transport network that efficiently delivers traditional and next-generation network services. The Traverse platform unifies high-capacity Gigabit Ethernet switching with next-generation SONET/SDH cross-connect and transport functionality in a single shelf optimized for metro and interoffice deployments. Applications that previously required multiple devices and overlay networks can now be supported from one compact and highly flexible system, enabling service providers to profitably roll out advanced residential, mobile and business access services.

About Epsilon Telecommunications
Epsilon Telecommunications is a focused supplier of E1 connections between cities in Europe and the US. The company’s high-availability network is based on a combination of the latest DWDM and traditional SDH technologies providing virtually 100% reliability. With over 30 points of presence (PoPs) in Europe and the US, Epsilon is poised to expand to additional major metropolitan centers and to continue broadening its range of high-value network services.
