Swisscom selects Fibernet for new dynamic gateway service

FiberNet Deploys Turin Networks Traverse Platform To Launch New Optical Conversion, Grooming, Digital Cross-Connection, and Distribution Services

NEW YORK - (Feb. 15, 2005)
- FiberNet Telecom Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: FTGX), a leading provider of managed network services, today announced that Swisscom AG (NYSE:SCM [ADR]), Switzerland's largest telecommunications provider, has selected FiberNet's new Dynamic Gateway service for the optical conversion and distribution of Swisscom's international traffic throughout New York City.

Through the Dynamic Gateway, FiberNet will convert Swisscom's incoming private line traffic from Europe running on the international SDH standard into the North American SONET standard. The Dynamic Gateway switching fabric will perform these STS-n to AU-n conversions, as well as rapid cross-connections, to Swisscom's carrier partners seamlessly, remotely, and at industry-leading provisioning intervals. By utilizing FiberNet's managed Dynamic Gateway service, Swisscom saves the time and expense of deploying remote multiplexing or digital cross-connection solutions. FiberNet will also distribute Swisscom's traffic to its termination partners in the United States via FiberNet's extensive New York metropolitan area network.

Marcel Senn, Purchasing Manager of Swisscom's International Carrier Services, said"FiberNet has proven to be a valuable partner for Swisscom, continuing to answer the call with new, innovative services that have greatly streamlined our network deployments. We could not be more pleased to utilize this advanced conversion capability to lower the cost and complexity of extending our operations to the United States and deliver greater value to our customers."

To enable the Dynamic Gateway service, FiberNet deployed the Turin Networks Traverse 2000 multi-service optical transport platform to seamlessly integrate next-generation SONET/SDH ADM (add-drop multiplexer), DCS (digital cross-connect) and Ethernet switching in a single carrier-class shelf. This versatility enables FiberNet to more efficiently and cost-effectively, manage and deliver any combination of SONET/SDH-based and next-generation data services - including Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet. Applications that previously required multiple shelves of equipment can now be supported from one compact and highly flexible shelf.

John P. Dowd, VP of Business Development for FiberNet, said"We are pleased to extend our relationship with Swisscom with our new Dynamic Gateway service. By utilizing the Turin Networks Traverse 2000 platform to enable this new service, FiberNet can offer new interconnection capabilities that help Swisscom optimize their network resources, take advantage of developing market opportunities and reduce network costs."

The Dynamic Gateway is a managed suite of enhanced traffic grooming and distribution services. From one port on the Dynamic Gateway, FiberNet can provide customers with: 1) transmission protocol conversions between the North American SONET protocol and the international SDH protocol; 2) seamless cross-connections within the Dynamic Gateway's switching fabric between low and high bandwidth circuits, and 3) faster provisioning times and lower maintenance of interconnections. These grooming capabilities are bundled with distribution on FiberNet's extensive network, providing a single end-to-end solution.

"We are proud to have our Traverse 2000 platform selected by FiberNet for their Dynamic Gateway service" said Kevin Wade, Director of Product Marketing at Turin Networks. "Our agreement with FiberNet is a strong endorsement of the unique strengths that Turin Networks Traverse 2000 brings to the table in helping carriers deliver innovative multi-service products and enhanced interconnection capabilities."

Dowd continued"With this new Dynamic Gateway service, combined with our existing Dynamic Hub service and E-1/T-1 conversion products, FiberNet has established itself as a leader for services requiring international protocol interoperability. With the industry rapidly gravitating to multi-service networks that demand rapid, any-to-any connectivity, FiberNet is building upon the momentum of these previous product launches and our reputation for delivering innovative managed network services."
