Turin Networks Earns "RUS Acceptance" and "Buy American"
Status for its Traverse® Platform
PETALUMA, CA., November 7, 2002 - Turin Networks,
Inc., a leading developer and supplier of multiservice optical
transport platforms for network service providers, announced
today that the Rural Utilities Service (RUS) branch of the United
States Department of Agriculture has granted "RUS Acceptance"
and "Buy American" status to Turin Networks Traverse® Platform.
This acceptance on the RUS list of materials allows rural telephone
and utility companies to purchase and deploy the Traverse Platform
with funds obtained through low-interest RUS loans.
"This
achievement demonstrates Turin's commitment to rural telephone
and utility companies" said John Webley, president and CEO,
Turin Networks, Inc. "Our solutions are currently deployed with
multiple rural carriers across the US, allowing them to affordably
increase the capacity and efficiency of their optical transport
networks, and offer a wide array of new broadband services in
rural areas. With the Traverse Platform now included on the
RUS transport vendor list, our next-generation optical transport
solution is available to the many RUS-funded rural carriers."
Turin's Traverse Multiservice Optical Transport Platform is
an evolutionary solution designed to integrate smoothly into
a carriers' existing SONET-based infrastructure, and provide
OC-3/12/48/192 transport of traditional DS1, DS3/EC-1, and OC-N
services, as well as switched Ethernet over SONET (EoS) services,
efficiently and cost-effectively. Highly integrated, the system
unifies the functions of a next-generation SONET add-drop multiplexer
(ADM) and digital cross-connect system (DCS) with an Ethernet
aggregation switch in a single compact shelf. In addition to
the ability to provision new revenue-generating data services,
this consolidation of the functions of three network elements
in a single system allows carriers to realize significant cost
savings in capital spending and operations, and improved network
efficiency. About Turin Networks
