Turin Networks, Inc. is a leading global provider of Carrier Ethernet solutions for wireline and wireless network operators. Turin’s iConnect solutions address the real-world challenges for network operators providing Wireless Backhaul, Carrier Ethernet and Converged Services. These solutions have been deployed by more than 600 customers worldwide, including the top five wireless network operators in the U.S., as well as 11 of the top 17 broadband Internet providers, to increase network efficiency and capacity, and facilitate the migration to Carrier Ethernet networks. Turin is headquartered in Petaluma, California with R&D facilities in Boulder, Dallas, Boston, and Shanghai, and sales offices throughout the world.

Industry Background

Intense competition in the telecommunications services industry has placed network operators under significant pressure. To compete effectively, they must to rapidly deliver new and expanded service offerings - such as IPTV, voice over IP (VoIP), Ethernet access, high-speed 3G/4G wireless and other value-added applications - as well as reduce long-term capital expenditures and operating costs while maintaining or increasing service quality. For the majority of network operators, these objectives can only be achieved via a transition from their legacy TDM networks to an Ethernet/IP optimized infrastructure. The focal point for this transition is the Metro Service Edge network.

Our Market Focus - The Metro Service Edge

The Metro Service Edge is the segment of the communications infrastructure that connects local enterprise, residential and wireless access networks to long-haul optical networks. Today, many of these networks incorporate a costly portfolio of network elements such as Ethernet switches, MSPPs (Multi-Service Provisioning Platforms), DCS (Digital Cross-connect Systems) and Ethernet over copper as well as pseudowire aggregation platforms. In addition to being expensive to purchase and install, this amalgam of disparate network elements is difficult and costly to maintain and monitor.

To minimize the costs and complexity associated with transitioning their networks, carriers require more robust and versatile solutions. Turin's unified, future-proof hardware and software platforms provide network operators a highly cost efficient means by which migrate legacy infrastructure to a high-capacity, Ethernet/IP optimized Metro Service Edge network.
